Enever will join the Brumbies for the Brisbane 10s this weekend, but a home-town match on the Sunshine Coast next week looms as a key to his hopes of securing a Super Rugby starting spot.

The Brumbies second row will be one of the most hotly contested positions this year, with Enever joining Sam Carter and twin towers Richie and Rory Arnold in a four-way battle.

Enever made a rapid rise to international rugby last year when Wallabies coach Michael Cheika plucked him out of the National Rugby Championship and added him to the spring tour squad.

Enever was in the Wallabies' starting XV for his Test debut against England at Twickenham and a clash against Scotland at Murrayfield against Scotland.

The battle for a Brumbies jersey, however, is a challenge on its own. Carter is the Brumbies' co-captain and the Arnold twins are the tallest players in Australian rugby history.

"There have been a couple of different [combinations] at training, we can only work as hard as we can and then hopefully round one leave it to a headache for the coaches," Enever said.

"You've got to expect a bit of competition, the game-day team is where you want to be. You've got to respect the other players' qualities.

"As a lock you want to be strong at the set piece, your work-rate around the field and making your tackles. I'm trying not to think about [what other guys] are doing, just on what I can do better.

"They are all highly quality players, if we can all force each other to get better, it's beneficial for everyone, hopefully we become better players and the squad will become even stronger."

Enever and the Arnold twins will play in the pool matches at the Brisbane 10s and will use a trial match against the Waikato Chiefs on February 14 as their last push for Super Rugby selection.

That match will be in Enever's backyard after growing up in Buderim. The 26-year-old even jumped in his car and drove the 32-hour round trip from Canberra to the Sunshine Coast on his Christmas break.

"I'm pretty excited to get back, there will be some friends and family at the game," Enever said.

"Hopefully we can start building some momentum into the season. I was chipping away for a while and [to get the Wallabies chance] at the end of the year I was over the moon.

"Not much changes for me, I'm just going to keep working as hard as I can to put my hand up for selection."

The Brumbies will play against Fiji, the Canterbury Crusaders and Wellington Hurricanes in their pool matches in Brisbane before the finals on Saturday.

Andrew Walker, 44, has been called out of retirement to be the Brumbies' wildcard player at the 10s tournament, but Christian Lealiifano, Scott Sio and Tevita Kuridrani are being rested.

The Brumbies women's side will also play at the Brisbane 10s to take their first steps towards the inaugural Super W season, with clashes against the Rebels and Queensland on Friday and NSW on Saturday.
