Staniforth was a constant presence in all the NRC games with defensive line speed and strong ball carries.

Usually a lock, he played most of the season at blindside flanker, leading the competition in both carries (110) and try assists (five) and coach Wayne Southwell said he deserved all accolades.

"He played just about all of the minutes out there and brought enthusiasm throughout the whole campaign, so it's great that his peers recognise that," he said.

"He got an opportunity to play a different position in those early games and handled it really well."

Emerging inside-centre Jordan Jackson-Hope was awarded the best back and was regularly dangerous with the ball in hand.

The 20-year-old had 55 carries for just under 300 metres during the campaign.

"Jackson-Hope consistently threatened the defence with good speed and footwork," Southwell said.

After making the grand final in 2015, the Vikings missed out on the finals but Southwell said the development of emerging Brumbies players was a significant element to the competition.

He said a formalisation of the Vikings as a development team for the Super Rugby franchise would benefit both teams.

"Part of the review process will be to come up with a direction with where the NRC sits for them (Brumbies) and I think that's really important," he said.

"Obviously the basis has to be for the development of players towards the next level and exposure for those players."

Southwell said developmental commitment would have an impact on the results for the NRC team.

"Winning is obviously important but if the rugby community is aware and the coaches are all on the same page that this is about development then I think you can play a different style of footy and you can give those guys that exposure that they need," he said.

Sione Taula was awarded best forward for the Vikings and Brent Hamlin was awarded team man of the year.
