But Wallabies coach MIchael Cheika believes his players posses the self-belief required to overcome 82,000 hostile fans and an English rugby team with its back to the wall on Saturday (Sunday morning AEST).

The Wallabies will feel the heat of the biggest match of the World Cup so far after arriving in London to start their preparation for the 'pool of death' contest.

Beating England would knock the hosts out of the tournament in what would be an embarrassing exit for Stuart Lancaster's men.

The Wallabies are determined not to get caught in a war of words with their bitter rivals.

But Cheika expects his players will feel the fury of the English crowd when the step on to centre stage.

"We have been trying to prepare for that for a long time by building our own self-belief," Cheika said.

"There are going to be tough times there where you are under pressure, and it's about how you deal with that [through the] belief that you have that you are going to get out of that situation.

"And that you know the map. When the thunder of Twickenham comes, that we have the answers for that. That's what we have been working on - those moments."

English crowds are notorious for their vocal support and unwavering belief in backing their players.

They will pounce on any Wallabies error and erupt as one when England get on top in the contest.

It's a stark contrast to the Wallabies' opening two matches of the World Cup.

They beat Uruguay 65-3 last weekend and cruised to victory against Fiji in the first game of their campaign.

The Wallabies haven't been put under any pressure in their first two matches, but Cheika says they have been building confidence to be able to turn the tables on England.

"For the players who know what they're about, know their role in the team and then can re-focus in those moments, they're the ones who will succeed," Cheika said.

"That's something we knew we would be encountering ... you can't simulate it, you try to prepare a map to get out of the situations.

"It is probably an area in the past where we haven't been as strong because we have lacked a bit of belief in ourselves.

"It is just about not fearing failure and backing what you have prepared ... daring yourself to be good enough and putting it on the line."

Cheika's bid to rally his squad comes as England face the fury of a nation.

Their shock loss to Wales last weekend has left them in a precarious position, knowing a loss to Australia would deliver a killer blow to their title hopes.

England has been hit by injuries to Ben Youngs and Billy Vunipola ahead of the Ashes battle against Australia.

Cheika is happy to lay low and be public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of English fans.

But former England captain Will Carling lobbed a grenade into Lancaster's camp on Monday by likening the squad environment to that of a classroom.

It forced England players and coaches to hit back at the criticism when their focus should be on trying to save their World Cup campaign.

Carling, who led England 59 times, was critical of captain Chris Robshaw's decision to go for an attacking lineout in the dying minutes of the three-point loss to Wales.

"I got the sense that England were panicking. I don't blame Chris as much as I blame others," Carling said.

"I've listened to [head coach] Stuart Lancaster say for years that 'I don't have the leaders and therefore we're having to make all the decisions as coaches'. It's a very classroom-orientated environment.

"...Instead, we've treated them as schoolboys."

England winger Jonny May said the criticism was unfair.

"The coaching team is the best I have ever had in my life," May said.

"I could not have learned more in this environment. This environment is brilliant.

"This environment is player-led. We sit down and present to one another. We get input in training. They come to us in terms of moves. It is a much player-led environment than I am used to."

The Wallabies spent two weeks in Bath away from the World Cup hype, and are keen to avoid to intense scrutiny on England, which has been described as a "crisis".

"Yeah, there's certainly plenty of build up," said Wallabies back-rower Ben McCalman.

"It's always spoken about in-house amongst the players, but out on the streets you notice it as well with the hype. Everyone has been looking forward to this one."
