But while he'll be buying Bernard Foley beers for life, Slipper is getting ready for a big job of his own if Scott Sio is ruled out of the semi-final clash against Argentina. The Wallabies are giving Sio every chance to be fit for the knockout match at Twickenham and won't force the Brumbies front-rower to train until he has recovered from an elbow injury.

His potential absence opens the door for Slipper to take a redemption mission a week after he threw a wayward pass that landed in Mark Bennett's lap and allowed Scotland to snatch the lead with six minutes left in the quarter-final. Luckily for Slipper, Foley was able to boot a controversial penalty in the last minute to lift the Wallabies to a 35-34 triumph and keep their World Cup dream alive.

Assistant coach Stephen Larkham joked he showed a replay in a review session with the squad's back-line players. But not the forwards. "It wasn't just [Slipper] that made a mistake. At the time you could see he crumbled and tried to dig a hole in the field," Larkham grinned. "But then he came into the huddle and apologised to the boys, and they were all around him and quickly moved on to the next job, which is all you can ask them to do. We haven't really talked about it … like most games, we've moved on pretty quick."

Sio's elbow injury is not as bad as first thought and he could make a recovery in time to play against Argentina. Coach Michael Cheika has opted to keep Sio in the squad rather than calling for reinforcements from Australia, while Israel Folau and David Pocock are on track to make their returns.

Winger Rob Horne is also available for selection after a miraculous recovery from a shoulder injury that medical staff initially feared would end his World Cup campaign. Folau and Pocock are yet to complete full training sessions, but are being monitored and are set to be thrown into action on Friday.

The Wallabies are bracing for another heated battle against Argentina as the teams fight for a place in the World Cup final. Argentina are bidding to make their first World Cup final and are riding high after beating Ireland 43-20 in the quarter-final. They mixed attacking flair with forward pack grunt to show they have developed into World Cup contenders.

The Wallabies beat Argentina by 25 points when the teams met three months ago, but that will count for little with World Cup hopes on the line. In their last meeting there was the threat of tempers boiling over across the field and Wallabies vice-captain Michael Hooper was suspended for one week after a behind-the-play incident.

"We go about our business, we didn't go into that game [in July] with a plan to get involved in all that sort of stuff," Larkham said. "But the guys are very proud, the Argentinians are very passionate about rugby and we're very passionate about the way we play as well.

"It's inevitable that two teams who are quite passionate will have some flare ups in the game. Previously [Argentina] have had a very good set piece, good physicality and probably lacked a bit of control and skill in the backs. But they've got a very skilful and fast back line at the moment."

The Wallabies have had mixed fortunes in their five matches. They demolished England, defended courageously to beat Wales and then managed the great escape against Scotland. But the changing form has done little to dent their confidence.

"The beauty of that game is that they can learn that a game is not over, it doesn't matter what the score is," Larkham said.

"[Scotland] was a danger game for us … Drew Mitchell dropped the ball over the line, we had one try disallowed and they scored from a charge down and an intercept.

"So we don't read too much into the game … but we can learn from it. It was a different way of winning and the way they stepped up when the pressure was on in that final seven minutes was something we can take away."
