The Brumbies had to grind their way to a 7-5 win against the Durban Sharks to book their ticket to the final and secure a chance to make amends for their loss in the 2014 event.

They'll play the Western Force in an all-Australian final at midnight Canberra time after the Perth-based side beat the Italian All Stars 29-0 in their semi-final.

Plenty will go on the line a month before the teams play in the last regular season game of the Super Rugby season, with bragging rights and a trophy up for grabs.

Brumbies fullback Aidan Toua continued his superb form and scored his fifth try of the tournament while a Robbie Coleman conversion in windy conditions was enough for the ACT side to progress.

The Brumbies have beaten the Sharks, the Western Force, the Italian All Stars, Euskadi and Toulon on the way to the final, and they've been a man down for the past two games with Jordan Smiler out of action with a knee injury.

It didn't matter against the Sharks as the Brumbies traded 10s flamboyance for hard work in a brutal encounter against their South African Super Rugby rivals.

"It was pretty tough out there, the Sharks took it to us and had some pretty electric players so it was just about big defence," said Brumbies lock Tom Staniforth.

The Brumbies were beaten by the Auckland Blues in extra-time at the inaugural world club 10s in Singapore two years ago.

But they have scored 126 points and conceded just 30 in their five games so far. They beat the Force 19-10 in the pool stages but are preparing for a much stiffer test in the final.

Smiler's absence has created a bigger work load for his teammates and the Brumbies appeared to be on tired legs in their physical encounter with the Sharks.

"It's been pretty fun, we've had a rotation and the guys are coming off with rolling subs. It's been managed really well so I'm enjoying it," Staniforth said.

"We're always chasing silverware so we really want the win in the final and we'll do anything to get it."
