It was a moment of irony as Jones addressed players, coaches and officials at the John I Dent Cup launch on Wednesday with an elephant in the room hanging around for two hours.

Jones is locked in an ongoing court case against the Brumbies board and stakeholders, prompting the clubs to call for an extraordinary general meeting on April 13.

Four board members - president Bob Brown, Angus McKerchar, Peter Callaughan and Matthew Nobbs - were at the club rugby launch as part of their duties and there was a notice of the EGM pinned to the window of the room.

But the Brumbies players have been the forgotten party in an ugly off-field war that overshadows their huge clash against the Waikato Chiefs at Canberra Stadium on Saturday night.

Brumbies playmaker Matt Toomua declared the players have to "simplify our job" in avoiding getting caught in the off-field drama.

But the organisation is in danger of crumbling around them with a motion to dissolve the board on April 13 while Jones and the directors are still waiting for the outcome of their court hearing.

"Rugby's a big business at the moment, there's a lot of moving parts and this is one of them," Toomua said in Sydney on Wednesday.

"Obviously the guys are interested, it's our work, it's our place, you're going to be interested in what's happening.

"In saying that, we're trying to simplify our job in the sense that we're the athletes and our job's to perform and hopefully get the Brumbies known for what we're good at and that's playing rugby."

The Brumbies are playing their first game in Canberra since beating the NSW Waratahs at the start of March.

They have won four of their five games this year and lead the Australian conference.

Despite their on-field success, tickets sales for the match have been slow as fans try to make sense of a battle behind the scenes.

The Brumbies have spent the past three weeks on the road, playing in Perth, Cape Town and Bloemfontein.

"I think we're quite fortunate that we've been overseas ... there's a fair bit going on now and it might be a different challenge now that we're actually in Australia, in Canberra.

"For us it's something that we put aside, it doesn't affect us too much.

"It's just about that rugby stuff. We've actually got a pretty simple job passing and kicking the balls, so hopefully we can just worry about that."

Justice Richard Refshauge is weighing up Jones' case against the Brumbies' board after deciding to extend the injunction against the directors' decision to stand down Jones.

Club officials have been watching from the background as the Brumbies implode, and the presidents are frustrated at the lack of information being fed through to the stakeholders.

The Canberra clubs have 14 of 23 votes in the Brumbies boardroom and they feel they have not been getting the information they deserve.

If the clubs vote as a block they can use their power to get the desired result. If they decide to overthrow the board, they only need a majority vote to be successful. But they could also vote for stability if they are satisfied with the information they gain

The clubs are still divided, with some describing the EGM as premature and others wanting answers before deciding which party to side with.

Jones spent more than 10 minutes detailing plans for club rugby this year and couldn't address the back-room drama because of a court order.

"From my perspective, when I came into this job I expressed my firm belief that if we don't have a very strong local competition, if we can't attract kids to the game, if we can't have a pathway and aspiration to play at the top level, then it's a very short-run thing for our community rugby," Jones said.
