The Brumbies board will meet this week to detail a $1.07 million loss in its annual report, while the club is also searching for a major sponsor, worth $1 million in revenue, and a new chief executive.

The instability is testing the club's financial future, but the squad addressed any concerns in a team meeting with coach Stephen Larkham last week and is intent on avoiding off-field distractions.

Moore said the players' priority was surging to the Super Rugby championship next year and backed professional players' representative board member Scott Fardy to juggle his role at the annual general meeting.

"It's very easy to get distracted but you need to remain focused and, to be fair, I think the boys have been doing that," Moore said. "Fards is comfortable with his role and is mature enough to focus on footy as well. It's important that we try to compartmentalise that.

"At the moment the only thing the players are thinking about [is] putting in a strong training week before Christmas and then coming back with our focus on rugby."

Brumbies and Wallabies great Owen Finegan has been linked to the chief executive role as the club searches for a replacement for Doug Edwards, who is returning to Queensland after his business partner fell ill.

However, it's understood Finegan has not had any discussions with the Brumbies about returning to the club.

The Brumbies are also locked in negotiations with four companies to find a naming-rights partner for the 2015 Super Rugby season, which begins with a clash against the Queensland Reds on February 13.

Moore stepped down from his position on the board in October to allow him to focus all of his energy into the captaincy job. He also questioned whether the players should have a compulsory position on the board, adding that the best candidate should fill the role rather than limit it to a current player.

The ACT Rugby Union board is set to implement the findings of an independent review early next year, which includes a skills matrix for every board position and potentially reducing directors from 11 to nine.

It will also appoint a second female board member, Lisa Thorburn, at the annual general meeting on Tuesday. It's the first time in the club's history the board has boasted two females, with Thorburn joining Carmel McGregor.

Disappointing crowds and drops in corporate hospitality, ARU funding and sponsorship led to the Brumbies reporting a loss this year. But back-room operations are out of the players' control as they continue to rebuild the club on the field and resurrect the Brumbies' reputation as one of the strongest teams in Super Rugby.

The players will train this week before breaking for Christmas holidays. Larkham is preparing for his first season as the sole head coach, while Moore will take the full-time captaincy reins for the first time.

"We'll probably see in January how much more mature this squad is," Moore said. "The guys on tour with the Wallabies would have learnt a hell of a lot. They'll come back in strong mental shape. We're going to have to be better next year or we won't get to where we want to go. Every team has to lift as Super Rugby gets tougher every year. You've got to find areas of advantage.

"The tight five has been doing some great work with [set-piece coach] Dan Palmer, so hopefully that's an area we can continue to improve on."
