Two years ago former Queensland Reds and Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie slammed the Brumbies for "cynical and negative tactics", as fans grew frustrated with their game-plan to kick possession away.

But the Brumbies are evolving into Super Rugby entertainers, coach Stephen Larkham giving the players freedom to implement an attacking game plan that promotes try-scoring rugby.

The Brumbies have flipped statistics on their head and have scored more tries than any team in this year's competition, also conceding the least penalties.

"It did sting when people said we were boring, especially the last year or two. People knew where to press buttons," Toomua said.

"But you've got to keep tight together and play to our strengths. We were still a winning team.

"We knew we wanted to play a bit more when we were ready for it and it's nice that the attack has evolved.

"No one wants to be labelled boring. But we were successful. As a player in Australia you want to play, we've worked on a winning mentality and that's put us in good stead now."

The Brumbies average 3.3 tries per game this season, securing bonus-point wins in two of their four matches.

They have scored 13 tries in four games and conceded just three - the equal lowest amount in Super Rugby.

The Brumbies have also corrected their discipline, going from the most penalised team in the competition last year to the best behaved in 2015.

"We've spoken about our discipline in terms of trusting our system and not giving away too many penalties, but we weren't too concerned about that," Toomua said.

"With better goal-kickers you've got to trust your system about giving away penalties. But it's ironic that the most successful teams are the most penalised.

"It feels different this year. The eagerness is showing of the guys wanting to get the ball in hand and have a bit of fun."

South African World Cup-winning coach Jake White overhauled the Brumbies' game plan in 2012 to develop a basic style of kicking out of their own half and putting pressure on opposition teams to make mistakes.

"We're not guaranteeing that we're going to score four tries in every game, but we've got a new mindset this year of trying to attack a little bit more," Larkham said.

"But we know what was successful for us. If we have to change to field position and taking risk out of the game, we can resort to that.

"It's an evolution. It's two years in the making. We'll kick to the corner [from penalties] and back ourselves."

Henry Speight is the only player in the back line who hasn't scored a try this season, but fullback Robbie Coleman said combinations were clicking after five games in a row together.

Coleman has made the No.15 jersey his own in Jesse Mogg's absence.

"I could probably get myself into the game more at times, but we've got a pretty dangerous back line and we've all got our role to do," Coleman said.

"I am trying to build my game around positional play and make sure I don't waste any attacking opportunities. We've got strike weapons so sometimes you don't touch the ball. But you have to be ready when it comes."
