Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham declared Leuluaialii-Makin has got what it takes to make it in Super Rugby after a solid 40-minute cameo from the bench.

It comes less than 12 months after Leuluaialii-Makin contemplated a return to his job as a removalist when he was struck down with injury.

Instead of moving pianos he found himself in a Canberra Stadium battle as the Brumbies ran away with a 52-10 win against the Wellington Hurricanes in his Super Rugby debut on Friday night.

The Queanbeyan front-rower was sent into a mad scramble for tickets last week when coach Stephen Larkham called him on to the bench for the opening-round clash.

"This is definitely a dream come true, I never thought I would get up to this stage," an emotional Leuluaialii-Makin said.

"It was always the goal ... I can't explain it. It's a surreal moment to be there in front of family and friends. I'm just so thankful God gave me the opportunity and pay him back.

"I'm thankful for [Larkham] and [forwards coach Dan McKellar] for believing in me and giving me this shot. There were definitely times I thought this wouldn't happen."

The 24-year-old was one of three Brumbies to make their debut in a superb round-one win. The Brumbies out-scored their opponents seven tries to one in a record victory.

Scrumhalf Tomas Cubelli was impressive in his first match, while Aidan Toua was solid at fullback in his comeback to Australian rugby.

But Leuluaialii-Makin had to sit nervously on the bench for 40 minutes before the coaches tapped him on the shoulder in the second half.

The pocket-rocket prop is 174 centimetres and 112 kilograms and immediately looked like he belonged in the middle of a Super Rugby scrum.

"I'll give it all I've got in every game that I get to play and I'll take any opportunity I get," Leuluaialii-Makin said.

"Playing for the Brumbies is everything to me. I'm a Canberra junior, I was always the shy kid who couldn't even got up to Larkham and [George] Gregan to get a signature.

"To be in the same spot now that they were in, I'm just so grateful and happy."

Leuluaialii-Makin is locked in a front-row battle, with the club's five props all vying for game time. Ruan Smith has been given extra time to recover from a stint in Japan, but is in the selection mix.

"Les pushed himself as hard as he could push himself. He didn't get a lot of carries, but defensively he worked hard. I've been a big advocate of Les for a while now, I just think he's got it," Larkham said.

"He's got the mental side of the game that some guys don't have."
