Jesse Mogg back in Canberra club rugby, 12 months after playing British and Irish Lions

From the hype of the Wallabies to coaching the Wests under-7s, Jesse Mogg says he's ready to rediscover his best form and fight his way back into the ACT Brumbies starting side and the Test squad.

A year after bursting onto the international stage against the British and Irish Lions, Mogg was in more humble surroundings in Canberra as he prepared for a club rugby comeback for Wests on Saturday.

The Brumbies fullback has struggled with inconsistent form this season and was left out of the Wallabies squad for the series against France.

Mogg was also dropped for the first time in his career from the Brumbies' starting XV two weeks ago, but the 25-year-old has vowed to "find a spark" and earn back the No. 15 jersey.

Coaching the Wests juniors is a long way from the Test arena, but Mogg is confident he can fight his way back to the top.

"Things can turn fairly quickly for you. This has made me hungrier and I need to improve," Mogg said.

"I'm using the Super Rugby break to get the mind refreshed. I'm pushing myself. Twelve months is a long time, but so is a week in rugby.

"For me it's just about turning the focus into improving and getting back into the starting XV. Hopefully I can find a bit of spark and carry that through."

Eleven Brumbies will return to Canberra's first-grade competition on Saturday, with Mogg suiting up for Wests' clash with Easts.

Mogg will also be part of the Brumbies' travelling party to play at the inaugural club's 10s tournament in Singapore next week.

Coach Stephen Larkham will name a squad on Thursday for the Singapore tournament with a host of club rugby players getting a chance to press their claims for a Brumbies contract.

It's understood Henry Speight won't make the trip to Singapore after spending 10 days in camp with the Wallabies.

Mogg is just focused on keeping his place in the Brumbies' side for their run to the Super Rugby finals.

They need to win their last two games against the NSW Waratahs (June 28) and the Western Force (July 11) to ensure they play in the finals for a second year in a row.

Wallabies utility Pat McCabe replaced Mogg as the Brumbies' fullback two weeks ago.

McCabe, Robbie Coleman, Henry Speight, Joseph Tomane and Mogg will battle for the wing, fullback and bench positions when the Brumbies restart their season.

Mogg admits his form has dropped off, but he insists he has coped well with being axed from the Brumbies team for the first time and is using it to make him a better player.

"I understood where [Larkham] was coming from, I've been struggling a bit," Mogg said.

"It's my job to put pressure on [McCabe] and try to get that starting XV spot back.

"I'm fighting for my position, someone is ahead of me and that's made me a bit more hungry and training to push myself to get back into a starting role."
