It's understood the flying Fijian could be eligible to play against Wales on November 30 in the last game of the Wallabies' spring tour.

But IRB officials are considering his status because of a stint in the New Zealand provincial competition in 2011 and his Wallabies dream could be put on hold for another 12 months.

Speight was left out of the 32-man spring tour squad on Friday while nine Brumbies were included in the grand-slam tour of Europe.

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie wasn't prepared to take Speight on tour if he was only eligible to play against Wales.

Rookie ACT prop Scott Sio was also omitted after making his Test debut in the Rugby Championship.

Speight - Australia's leading Super Rugby try scorer - joined the Brumbies for the 2011 Super Rugby season.

But a stint with the Waikato Chiefs in New Zealand at the end of 2011 has put a cloud over his Wallabies aspirations.

The Brumbies will start pre-season training on Monday without a head coach following Jake White's decision to quit the last two years of his contract.

A coaching sub-committee was supposed to meet this week, but the club wants to avoid rushing the process to ensure it makes the right decision.

The Brumbies had all but three players available for pre-season training when White started as coach at the end of 2011.

But prop Ben Alexander insisted the search for White's replacement and the big contingent on Wallabies duties would not hinder the Brumbies bid to win a championship next season.

''It was obviously very disappointing with what happened with Jake,'' Alexander said.

''The guys on the spring tour are going to get match and big-game experience and that's going to be beneficial to us.

''We want to get bigger and better for next year, the desire to win a championship is even greater now.''

The Brumbies' outstanding Super Rugby season was rewarded with increased Wallabies representation.

Christian Leali'ifano, Scott Fardy and Ben Mowen have established themselves as regular starters while Nic White, Matt Toomua, Tevita Kuridrani and Joseph Tomane have all had chances to impress.

Fardy has an eye injury and will miss the last Bledisloe Cup match in Dunedin next weekend.

But the journeyman flanker will be fit to play on the grand slam tour with games against England, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The Wallabies struggled with the coaching transition from Robbie Deans to McKenzie.

But their attacking style clicked in the last game of the Rugby Championship against Argentina when they romped to a 54-17 win in Rosario.

''We felt we were making progress even though the results didn't show it,'' Alexander said.

''It just got to show everyone what we can do, but it doesn't mean anything now because we have to keep improving and put in a good performance against the world champs [New Zealand] next week.

''It was just about finding the style that suits us as a group. We're starting to come together nicely.''
