Argentina international Cubelli is in the capital to fast-track his transition to Australian rugby, but his earlier-than-expected visit won't involve training as he sets up his life in Canberra.

The 26-year-old will have a chance to meet with Brumbies players and coaches after signing a two-year deal to replace Nic White as the club's marquee scrumhalf.

But Cubelli won't be required to pull on the boots until January 4 when the squad's World Cup players return to ramp up preparations for the Super Rugby campaign.

Cubelli was waiting on Australian immigration to tick off on his paperwork before he could start his tenure in the capital.

Officials found an administration error on his passport when registering his contract, with a translation error resulting in him mistakenly being registered as a female.

But with that sorted, Cubelli has been cleared to start work and settle into his new Canberra home as he battles with Michael Dowsett and Joe Powell for the scrumhalf role.

The Brumbies will also be boosted by Christian Lealiifano's return to training on Monday and the squad has been put through brutal pre-season sessions to get them in peak condition.

Athletic performance director Ben Serpell has created a partnership with the AIS to have players work with boxing coaches to improve their movement and power.

National development coach Don Abnett, who is working with Olympic Games gold medal hope Shelley Watts, hopes the relationship will also allow boxers to break up their training with stints in the Brumbies gym.

Abnett has been impressed with the big-hitting power of Tongan beast Ita Vaea as the Brumbies introduce new training methods to give them a Super Rugby edge.

The players have also been working with a specialist sprint coach.

"The guys are doing a bit of cross-training and they're a great bunch of lads to train with," Abnett said.

"I suppose it helps with a bit of co-ordination between the arms and legs, a bit of evasion stuff as well. We've thrown a couple of little boxing games in there as well to help with endurance.

"We cater for what they need. We've only been doing stuff with footy teams on and off. I did a little bit with Rocky Elsom in 2010, then Henry Speight and David Pocock came in when they were doing their rehabilitation.

"A few of them are keen to land some blows, I don't know if it will come to that. I watched Vaea do some damage on the bags, I wouldn't want to be in front of that. They've got natural talent."

Serpell believes linking with the AIS and greater collaboration between the organisations can help the Brumbies' push for a Super Rugby title.

They will work with boxing staff as well as the AIS dieticians and strength and conditioning department.
