Staunch enemies for years, the Brumbies and Raiders have engaged in a temporary ground-sharing agreement that benefits both clubs.

The Brumbies have agreed to let the Raiders train at their new $16 million sports hub facilities at the University of Canberra one day a week for the past couple of weeks.

In exchange, the Raiders have granted the Canberra Vikings the use of the club's training ground at Bruce on Thursday nights to train in preparation for the National Rugby Championship.

The Vikings will resume training at UC next week when temporary lights are installed at the ground, with their contingent of club players having to train at night to balance their work commitments.

Permanent lights will be built in a couple of months when the appropriate planning is undertaken and the funding is secured.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart is understood to have visited the Brumbies' new headquarters at UC in July and was impressed with the state-of-the-art facilities.

The relationship between the Super Rugby and NRL clubs hasn't always been smooth over the years, but Brumbies chief executive Doug Edwards said it was on the improve, especially from a corporate perspective.

"We're looking to do more where we can save money and help each other out," Edwards said.

"The relationship's pretty good.

"One example was the big stage that got put up at (Canberra) Stadium this year.

"We said to the Raiders, instead of us taking it down, that they could use it - and they were happy to do that."

The Vikings had been training at the AIS, but when some of their grounds closed because of the weather the NRC team had to find another option.

"When we designed the oval at the university there wasn't the need for extra lighting towers because the NRC concept hadn't been developed," Edwards said.

"The Raiders contacted us because they wanted to train at UC for a couple of Fridays while our guys were there on the Thursday night.

"We'll make do at UC with portable light towers for another six weeks before daylight saving starts."
