After losing Friday's Twenty20 match, the Meteors failed to fire for a second straight day at Adelaide Oval field two in their 50-over Women's National Cricket League game.
Chasing South Australia's total of 8-231, the Meteors couldn't build any decent partnerships on their way to getting bowled out for 191 in the 45th over.
Meteors captain Kris Britt and opener Katie Mack both top-scored with 26, while all-rounder Kate Pulford (25) and Lynsey Askew (24) also got starts without turning it into a significant contribution.
Meteors coach Andrew Dawson said it was up to his side's top order batters to rein in their attacking instincts and to pace their innings with more composure.
"Our batting's just not firing," Dawson said.
"We're probably trying to force too much of an issue and trying to go too hard.
"We've spoken about it a bit, about someone in that top four or five going big and being the person to bat around, but it's not happening."
Dawson didn't want to use the absence of New Zealand internationals Sara McGlashan and Nicola Browne as an excuse.
"Having Sara and Nic around, yes they are quality cricketers, but the players we have got here are fairly experienced," Dawson said.
"This is Katie Mack's second season and Jenny Taffs and Rebecca Maher are probably the newest players in the team.
"Askew, [Sara] Hungerford, Britt, [Rhiannon] Dick ... they've all played enough WNCL."
Lauren Ebsary starred for South Australia with the bat with 94 from 96 balls, with Rene Farrell and Askew taking two wickets each.
The Meteors will be aiming to finish their series on a high in a T20 match on Sunday.
