Weston Creek Molonglo ripped through the Tuggeranong line-up on their way to an amazing outright victory by 105 runs in the Douglas Cup match at Chisholm Oval on Saturday.
Creek all-rounder Sam Taylor was the destroyer with the sensational figures of 5-5 from 8.4 overs, including five maidens, while 17-year-old quick Joe Slater claimed 3-11 ahead of his ACT Comets debut on Monday.
Tuggeranong's meagre total was the equal ninth lowest in the history of two-day cricket in the ACT. The unwanted record belongs to the Acton side of 1933-34, bowled out for just seven in a match against Northbourne.
Creek batsman Mark Bennett said he couldn't believe what was happening.
"Everything went to hand, I've never seen anything like it," he said. "You're always a chance, but we didn't think in the end it was going to unfold like that.
"You think if we can get a few quick ones and put them under pressure [we might be a chance], but we just ran through them."
Creek resumed the day at 3-105 chasing Tuggeranong's first innings total of 193.
After a late start to allow the ground to dry after rain on Friday night, Creek's batsmen piled on 200 runs in an hour and a half before declaring at 6-305 to put Tuggeranong back in after the tea break.
Taylor was at his attacking best with the bat, continuing on from his eye-catching cameo in the Twenty20 final where he smashed 34 runs in the last over to almost get Creek over the line.
"He's in sublime form at the moment with both bat and ball," Bennett said. "It was really good to bat with him, and he's a positive batsman, so it makes it easier for me at the other end."
The result puts Creek firmly into the top four and hot on the heels of Wests/UC, who had the second day of their game with Queanbeyan washed out.
"We had a disappointing result against Norths before Christmas, but I think that was a little blip," Bennett said. "Everyone's got a fair bit of confidence in the way we're going as a team."
Meanwhile, a boundary from Liam Greenwood with two minutes remaining in the match delivered North Canberra Gungahlin a stunning outright victory against Ginninderra.
Norths were chasing 152 for victory after bowling Ginninderra out for 205 in their second innings, Australian under-19 representative Ben Taylor doing the damage with 5-66.
Norths led by 54 runs after declaring at their overnight score of 3-191.
Meanwhile, Eastlake clinched first innings points against ANU, but weren't able to secure the outright victory.
