Ray Junna's time in charge of the Canberra National Premier League club appears over after Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Cooma Tigers at Deakin Stadium.
The Canberra FC board will hold a meeting on Monday night to determine Junna's fate.
Canberra FC has won six, drawn one and lost three of its 10 games in the NPL in Junna's first season in charge to sit third on the table, six points behind, but with a game in hand on leaders Belconnen United.
They are certainly not terrible results, but Canberra FC's board is focused purely on winning the league championship and anything else is considered a failure.
Canberra FC has lodged a proposal to host the Wanderers in a pre-season friendly on July 30, and is hoping to have the match rubber-stamped by Capital Football this week.
Whoever takes over from Junna will need to fix the defensive issues at the back which the in-form Tigers were able to expose, with Goran Josifovski's header in the 83rd minute proving to be the decisive goal.
The Tigers are a genuine contender for the league championship, sitting just one point behind Belconnen United with a game in hand.
Tigers coach Gaby Wilk said his side has the self-belief and the confidence required to take out the title.
"Mentally we know we can do it,'' Wilk said.
"From now on it's all finals for us, I want to win the competition.
"The last seven, eight weeks we've gained a lot of confidence and it's time for Cooma to be champions.''
The Tigers hit the front after just two minutes through Stephen Domenici before a couple of classy pieces of finishing from Alex Oloriegbe gave Canberra FC a 2-1 lead on the half-hour mark.
Josifovski was the beneficiary of some lazy defending as he tapped in the equaliser to ensure the teams were locked 2-all at half-time.
Both sides had golden chances to hit the front in the second half, but it remained a stalemate until Josifovski was in the right place at the right time to send the Tigers' travelling supporters into raptures.
Canberra FC had one final chance in injury time when Phillipe Bernabo appeared to have his shirt pulled when he was inside the box, but claims for a penalty were denied.
