The two sides will play on Saturday and Sunday in what coach Les Young labelled "an extremely important weekend".
They have five wins apiece with the Heat in second position on the eastern conference ladder and UTSSU in third. The top two teams will advance to the finals.
"In fact you could probably argue that they're ahead of us because we've played one more game than them but we're sitting on the same wins," Young said.
"We need to get over the line to be able to get ourselves in a position to defend our championship."
The Heat women's team will play the UTSSU women's side but its position is more precarious as it sits in third spot.
"They beat UTS in both of the games away already so hopefully that should put them in a good position to play well," Young said.
