Remember the Raiders bromance between Blake Ferguson and Sandor Earl back in 2012 when Canberra was flying towards the NRL finals? That didn't end well for the club, did it. But there's another bromance emerging from the Raiders - props Paul Vaughan and Shannon Boyd. The pair spent last week together in Country camp at Wagga and it seems Boyd is just as fond as Vaughan as the buffet. "He won't leave me alone, I can't get rid of him," Vaughan said this week. "We room together when we're away and we're always in each other's pockets. We were together for every day the past two weeks and we were getting sick of one another. But it was definitely good to be with him there, I've been playing with him since I was 17." Boyd, who plays at about 122 kilograms and sends photos of his nightly meals to the club's nutritionist, admitted he may have overindulged a little in Country camp. But before he got in trouble, Boyd was quick to bring Vaughan down with him. "He put on about five [kilos]," Boyd said.

A big congratulations to Tuggeranong Hawks stalwart Amy Currie who brought up her 200th game with the Canberra AFL women's team on Friday. There have been a few women who have reached the milestone in the competition, but none who have played them all with one club. Currie has been a loyal Hawk since her debut in 2000 and has featured in five of the club's six premierships (she missed one while travelling overseas). Currie has also represented the ACT women's team.

There have been plenty of strange Brumbies tour stories over the years, but Locker Room would now like to cast a vote for Blake Enever. The Brumbies lock packed his fishing rod for the South African tour of Cape Town and Johannesburg. The players only get limited free time away from training and game preparation, but Enever didn't want to miss any chance to wet a line. Enever didn't catch a thing in Cape Town, we'll keep you posted how he fares in Johannesburg.

Talk about a pocket rocket. Canberra's Megan Hinchley might only weigh in at 51kg, but she's hoping to dead lift three times that amount when she represents Australia at the world powerlifting championships in Finland in June. The 33-year-old took out the silver medal at the national championships, squatting 115kg, bench pressing 60kg and dead lifting 130kg. Having only started in the sport in 2010, Hinchley has upped her training regime and is aiming to go even heavier in Finland. "I'm hoping to lift three times my body weight in the dead lift," Hinchley said. "People are often shocked to hear such a petite woman is involved in powerlifting. "People have that image you should be big and burly. It's great for the sport to show you can be female, small, feminine and still be very strong."

Canberra's world champion aerial skier Laura Peel began in gymnastics and another ACT schoolgirl is hoping to vault into the Winter Olympics sport. Maddison Pearce, 17, will join a team of 50 ACT gymnasts for the national championships in Melbourne this month, before focusing on a switch to aerial skiing. The 17-year-old has been accepted into a national transition program for aerial skiing, similar to the path taken by Peel. "I really look up to her," Pearce said of Peel, who is the current world champion and competed at the Sochi Winter Games last year. "I've been doing gymnastics for 11 years and a lot of the aerial skiers come from gymnastics." Pearce has already been to Victoria to watch the Australian aerial team in action on the water jumps and also to train with them on trampolines. Finishing school this year, she will complete a program on the snow during the July school holidays.

Canberra United defender Ellie Brush will join the Houston Dash in the US National Women's Soccer League to replace injured teammate Stephanie Ochs. Ochs will miss the next nine months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee. It's the first stint for Brush in US league after previously playing in Norway in 2013. Brush has been one of the most consistent defenders in the W-League since it began in 2008. Brush is waiting to obtain her visa and international clearance, but could make her debut for the Dash as early as next weekend. The US NWSL season runs until September, with Brush then set to return to Canberra United for the 2015-16 W-League season.

The Canberra Capitals are exploring the potential to host some home games at the Canberra Royal Theatre next summer given the AIS Arena will be unavailable for part of the WNBL season. It's a novel approach from the Capitals, but it could be more appealing to fans by bringing WNBL action closer to the city. Talks are only preliminary and the Capitals would want an ongoing arrangement, especially given they would need to buy or hire a demountable basketball court. The venue would seat up to 1700 people, which would also be more suitable for Caps-sized crowds than the 4500 seats at the AIS.
