Canberra's Luke Behrendorff set to make senior debut in Australian handball team

Canberra's Luke Behrendorff is on the verge of making his debut in the Australian handball team after being selected to compete at the International Handball Trophy in Kosovo in June.

Behrendorff, who has previously represented the under-21 Australian team, was on Sunday named in his first senior squad along with fellow ACT representative Callum Mouncey.

Behrendorff is the younger brother of Australia A, Western Australia and Perth Scorchers fast bowler Jason.

The Australian team will be using the IHF Trophy from June 18-27 as preparation for the Olympic Games qualification tournament in Qatar in November.

Canberra is also represented in the Australian women's team, with Kayla Zissler one of two goalkeepers selected for the world championship qualifying event in Kazakhstan from June 11-19.

This will be the former Canberra Girls Grammar School student's first time in the national senior team after representing her country at junior level.

Handball ACT has seven players represented in the under-21 national team.

Former ACT player Alice Keighley was also selected in the Australian senior side to travel to Kazakhstan.
