Former Brindabella, Canberra FC and Monaro Panthers striker Grzic will line up for the Palm Beach Sharks against the Mariners in an FFA Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old wants to impress A-League coaches with a strong performance in the match and advance to the next stage of the competition.

"A-League is the next step and it would be good to get in there," Grzic said.

"It's just about getting the opportunity to do so and playing against the Mariners is a good chance to show what I've got."

The FFA Cup has swept Australia, with the competition giving amateurs a chance to take on professionals.

Grzic moved to the Gold Coast from Canberra in 2009 and works as a waiter at a Sea World restaurant while pursuing his A-League ambition.

Tuggeranong United was knocked out of the FFA Cup by the Melbourne Victory in the round of 16 last month.

The game attracted more than 5000 fans to Viking Park and Grzic hoped the Sharks would get the same hype on the Gold Coast.

"This might be our only opportunity in a long time to play a professional team, so we're all pretty pumped up for it," Grzic said.

"I'm still young and some A-League players don't get signed until they're 23 or 24. Our coach has really looked into how the Mariners play and he believes if we execute that, then we're in with a good shot."

Grzic played a crucial role in the Sharks' successful Gold Coast season, winning the league championship and the grand final before being knocked out in the quarter-finals in the NPL.

Grzic was part of Gold Coast United's development program before the FFA revoked the club's licence.

Grzic hopes to join fellow Canberrans Carl Valeri, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Kofi Danning and Steven Lustica in the A-League.

"There hasn't been anything like the FFA Cup, so it gives everyone a chance to have a crack and see what level they're at," Grzic said.

"Canberra's been a good breeding ground and gone on to do well. The ACT has been neglected in the past, but that's changing."
