The former Test vice-captain has even left the door ajar to take on a coaching role with a prospective Canberra team after he was announced as an official bid ambassador on Wednesday.

The Canberra Big Bash Bid advisory group has launched a 'Secure Our Club. Secure your Seat' campaign in a bid to garner support from the community.

Haddin was unveiled as a bid ambassador and board member by advisory group member Kate Corkery, alongside 15-year-old prospect Lauren Phillips.

Cricket Australia and BBL officials are yet to announce any formal expansion plans but the Canberra consortium is keen to get on the front foot so the ACT is first in line when the competition grows.

Haddin quickly became part of the furniture at the Sydney Sixers, but he jumped at the chance to join the bid team given he burst onto the scene with the Canberra Comets 20 years ago.

"As a professional athlete you don't often get the opportunity to start something from the ground up, to create your own identity with what you want to stand for," Haddin said.

"I think we've got a great opportunity to do that here. I know the Sixers were very successful when they started because of the identity that we set up. We've got the same opportunity here with Canberra.

"I was very lucky when I started my career that the Comets were involved, so I got exposure straight away at the highest level.

"To have the opportunity to put the bid forward or a Big Bash team, I think that's the next step in Canberra's development. We're doing everything right, I think we've earned the right to put this bid in.

"We're ready to go, we've got all the facilities here. We don't need to touch on anything, we've got a world class ground and we've now got world class facilities in Phillip [which will open next week]. More importantly, we've got good people."

Haddin laughed he wouldn't be a Canberra team's first marquee recruit but he expects a host of ACT products plying their trade around the nation would welcome the prospect of playing at home.

It would see the likes of Nathan Lyon, Jason Behrendorff, Alex Ross, Jason Floros, Nick Winter and Tom Rogers all return to Canberra for the BBL season.

It could also allow the bulk of the ACT Meteors squad to stick together all summer, rather than going their separate ways for the WBBL.

"This is where I got my first opportunity, taste and exposure of international cricket. I've taken 20 years to get back to this spot to give Canberra an opportunity to get a team in the first class competition," Haddin said.

"Look at a guy like Jason Behrendorff for example, he's had to move across west to follow his dream and he's still got family ties here.

"I know the Big Bash is a great time of the year, but it's also Christmas and time you want to spend with your family so it'd be pretty obvious for Jason, [Nathan Lyon] and everyone to come back around Christmas time I reckon."

Millionaire Canberra businessman Mark McConnell is behind the expansion bid and sees strong crowds at the women's Ashes and January's BBL blockbuster at Manuka Oval as a huge boost.

The advisory group has launched a bid team membership with supporters receiving a cap, priority access to membership in the inaugural Big Bash season and access to exclusive events and updates, at $50 for adults and $25 for kids.
