Weston Creek Molonglo was in the driver's seat having reduced Queanbeyan to 7-86 after 16 overs when play was stopped.

The umpires called off the game at 8.35pm after consulting with both captains with lightning in the area and play having to resume no later than 9.15pm.

A decision on whether the final will be replayed will be made at the next ACT Premier Cricket committee meeting.

Weston Creek leg-spinners Mac Wright and Blake Dean bowled beautifully before the rain set in, taking 2-12 and 2-18 off their four overs respectively.

Queanbeyan captain Mark Higgs started with plenty of aggression, smashing three boundaries in the third over as his side sped along to 0-33.

The introduction of Dean did the trick for Weston Creek as he bowled Adam Heading for four in the fourth over.

But even better was to come for Dean when he took the key wicket of Higgs for 30 from just 15 balls to leave Queanbeyan in a rebuilding mode at 2-42 in the sixth over.

Wright got among the wickets when he dragged Henry Hunt out of his crease and wicketkeeper Harry Bryant did the rest.

The wheels quickly began to fall off the Queanbeyan innings.

Wright struck again when he knocked over Michael Curtale with a beautiful delivery, before former Queanbeyan captain Sam Taylor came back to haunt his old side with a sensational direct hit to get rid of Simon Fahey.

Taylor also did damage with the ball when he bowled Matthew Grocott to leave Queanbeyan 6-73.

Worse was to come when Jesse Cao holed out to deep long on trying to increase the scoring rate off the bowling of Harry Medhurst.
