Slater is eighth on Cricket ACT's leading wicket-takers' list this season with 23, and replaces Wests-UC quick Sam Skelly.
Selectors opted to rest Skelly, conscious of the strain too much cricket could put on one of Canberra's most promising young fast bowlers.
The Comets remain winless in the Futures League this season and will be looking for a breakthrough victory at Manuka Oval.
Tasmania are unbeaten in four games, with three wins and a draw pushing them into second on the table behind Queensland.
Hopes the Comets would be greeted by a familiar face were dashed when Tasmania left former ACT leg-spinner Mac Wright off the team list.
