Tennis: ACT Velocity finish seventh at Asia-Pacific Tennis League after close loss

The Canberra Velocity women's team have lost a heartbreaking match to the Prospect Flames in the battle for fifth at the Asia-Pacific Tennis League playoffs.

With the scores locked at 3-3 and sets level, the Velocity lost the match by just three games at Melbourne Park on Tuesday to finish tied for seventh overall.

Bai went down to Jessica Moore in straight sets while Keir fought back to beat Olivia Key 4-1 in the third set.

The Velocity went down 2-1 when Alexandra Nancarrow lost 4-1, 4-0 to American Jennifer Ellie, but Tyra Calderwood levelled the tie again, beating Amber Marshall.

Keir and Calderwood dominated their doubles match, dropping only two games to put the Velocity up 3-2.

In the other doubles match, Bai and Nancarrow won a tight first set 5-3 in a tiebreak, but lost the second set and the deciding tiebreak.
