Ruiz will have to watch the round of 16 encounter with the A-League glamour club from the sidelines after going down in a tackle in the final play of Tuesday night's 3-0 win against Capital League side Narrabundah.

The match at the AIS grass field was a warm-up game for Tuggeranong to keep the part-timers match fit before they face the superstars from Victory at Viking Park next Tuesday night.

Ruiz put in an impressive performance for Tuggeranong in its stirring opening-round win in a penalty shootout away to South Hobart.

While filling his place in the side at short notice is going to be a challenge, Tuggeranong coach Steve Forshaw's main priority is Ruiz's well-being.

"You've got to feel for the boy this close to a big game, and that's my major concern," Forshaw said.

"It's more about him than it is about anything else.

"The pain will go away, but he'll never forget the opportunity that's been missed."

The match with the Victory will be the biggest game in Tuggeranong United's history.

One of the smallest clubs in the Capital Football National Premier League, Tuggeranong qualified for the FFA Cup by virtue of its Federation Cup success last year.

The side has been searching for games since its Capital Football National Premier League season finished at the end of August.

It defeated Belconnen United's Capital League team last week before facing Narrabundah.

The match was almost over when Ruiz was injured in a tackle.

"It was an unfortunate situation," Forshaw said. "It was the last kick of the game, and he just got caught a bit late.

"These things happen in football and you've got to take the rough with the smooth."

The Victory's Socceroos duo Mark Milligan and Carl Valeri are both expected to face Tuggeranong after playing for Australia in its 3-2 win against Saudi Arabia in London on Tuesday.

But before the Victory faces Tuggeranong, it has a pre-season game with Adelaide United on Friday.
