Weston Creek Molonglo's Jono Dean scores ton after swapping BBL for Cricket ACT

But Weston Creek Molonglo batsman and BBL champion Jono Dean didn't skip a beat in his return to the Cricket ACT Douglas Cup with a vital century against Queanbeyan on Saturday.

Dean posted 119 from 168 balls as Creek racked up 225 in their first innings, while Queanbeyan finished on 3-93 in the final round of the regular season.

The 33-year-old played a lone hand for much of the innings with John Rogers' 37 the next best score, while Queanbeyan's Vele Dukoski claimed 5-56 (16.2).

Dean laughs it was a "slightly different" environment to return to, but it was as good a place as any to play his first two-day match of the summer following niggling shoulder injuries and a BBL campaign.

"I've played a lot of cricket out at Freebody and I do enjoy playing there. It's no Adelaide Oval, but you can't play on Adelaide Oval every day unfortunately," Dean said.

"I played a Futures League game before Christmas and had a nets session during the week, and that's the only red ball I've faced all year. It was nice to be back out with the boys and to get some runs was a bonus.

"I'm not going to lie, it is quite sweet to get runs against my old club, I do enjoy it. I do have some close mates that still play for Queanbeyan, that I've played a lot of cricket with and against.

"There's always a bit of fun banter and it's always a challenge, so it's always quite satisfying to get some runs against them."

Creek's bowling attack has a huge role to play on day two given the firepower in Queanbeyan's ranks - Dukoski and Michael Spaseski scored 202 runs inside 18 overs last week.

Those two are still waiting in the sheds, with Dean Solway (38*) and his brother Mark Solway (3*) unbeaten at stumps.

"For me personally it was nice to get some runs but a pretty disappointing day for the team, being bowled out for 200 on a pretty good wicket is not ideal," Dean said.

"[Our bowlers have a] huge job. Hopefully we hit the right areas and we can hang on to our coaches. We've still got 120 runs to play with and runs on the board always helps, but it's going to take a big effort next week to come away with the win."

Meanwhile, North Canberra-Gungahlin wicketkeeper Josh Low-McMahon (89) fell just short of a century in a bid to keep his side's finals hopes alive.

Fourth-placed Norths posted 268, with the table-toppers Eastlake 0-2 in reply at Kingston Oval.

Ginninderra and defending premiers Tuggeranong are hoping Eastlake win so the race for fourth place opens up, and their Chisholm Oval showdown is evenly poised.

Ginninderra lost 7-41 in the final session to fold for 248. Tuggeranong will begin the chase on day two.

Western District-UC (7-148) battled back from an early fright to put themselves in the box seat for first innings points against ANU (158) following Ethan Bartlett's 5-55 at Jamison Oval.
