Wests/UC gloveman David Spare has stepped up admirably in the absence of regular keeper Sam Carters in the second half of the season.

After sharing in the spoils of Wests/UC's thrilling victory in the Gallop Cup, Spare can complete a dream debut season in the top grade in the Douglas Cup decider against Weston Creek Molonglo at Kippax Oval, starting on Friday.

Spare was elevated to the top side when Carters moved to the US for university studies midway through the season.

He had spent the past five years in the lower grades, only taking over wicket-keeping duties when his best mate didn't show up for a game.

"I kept when I was 14 and so I got the job," Spare said.

"I do everything like a fielder so I don't let any byes through.

"I've constantly got bruises on my legs and my knees, but it's worth it in the end."

He's also got damaged ligaments on one of his fingers as a result of quick delivery from Wests/UC captain Ben Oakley in a game against Creek in January.

Creek has also had a change behind the stumps, with Adelaide Strikers batsman Jono Dean taking the gloves after stepping into the role in last weekend's semi-final against Eastlake.

Wests/UC is attempting to win its third straight Douglas Cup premiership while Creek is chasing its first since 2008-09.

Creek is aiming to gain revenge for its four-run loss to Wests/UC in the one-day final, captain Michael Delaney confident his side is hitting its straps at the right time.

"It's difficult when you have so many new players just to find that right balance and trying to find people who are going to perform around them," Delaney said.

"We've always been confident, we knew if we could make the finals and get a full-strength team in we would shake things up a bit.

"We showed that in the match with Eastlake up against one of the better batting line-ups in the competition, but anything can happen in a final."
