The Capitals went down to the Dandenong Rangers 74-72 at the Belconnen Basketball Stadium on Saturday night for their six straight loss.
McAppion had a massive game for the Capitals, scoring a game-high 28 points on 10 from 13 shooting from the field and a perfect eight from eight from the free throw line.
She also had eight rebounds to show she could play a bigger part for the Capitals in the upcoming Women's National Basketball League season.
The Capitals came out of the blocks slowly to trail by 11 points after the first quarter, and still trailed the Rangers 42-32 going into half-time.
But they staged an incredible recovery in the third quarter, holding the Rangers to just six points to level the scores at three-quarter time.
McAppion's buzzer beater at the end of regulation tied it up at 62-all, but the Capitals weren't able to hold on in overtime and get their first win of the season.
The Canberra Gunners dropped to 1-6 after an 85-75 loss to Dandenong.
American import Garlon Green top-scored for the Gunners with 25 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds.
