The 23-year-old American centre will debut for the Capitals in Saturday night's game against the Sydney-Uni Flames at the Southern Cross Basketball Stadium in Tuggeranong.

Stallworth joined the Heal-coached South-East Queensland Stars this season, but was released after just 11 games.

Heal - nicknamed "The Hammer" during his illustrious playing career - claimed the former WNBA draft pick reacted badly when she was taken out of the starting line-up and was a liability defensively.

"Everyone has their own opinions on things and the way Shane views me is different to the way other coaches view me," Stallworth said.

"That's how he felt, can't change how he feels.

"I'm just really looking forward to be back on the court and help Canberra as much as possible."

Heal said the Stars needed to make a change, bringing in American import Jordan Hooper to replace Stallworth.

"The thing was she knew she wasn't fitting in and the longer it went on I felt like her performances continued to deteriorate," Heal told The Jimboomba Times. "She wasn't doing the things we needed her to do.

"DeNesha didn't want to come off the bench and didn't want to be kept accountable, so it was a mutual agreement because I certainly wasn't going to be changing the way we keep our culture."

Capitals coach Carrie Graf said she had no concerns about Stallworth's work ethic or ability on defence based on Heal's comments.

"We wouldn't have picked her up if we had concerns so I think she's really going to help us," Graf said.

"She's already played 10 games in the league, in 25 minutes she was averaging nearly 13 points and seven rebounds a game.

"She's a back-to-the-basket post player, a big body and she has proved she can play in this league already, so to get her here is a big boost for us."

The Capitals (0-10) are aiming to avoid a club record 11th straight loss, having had a wretched run with recruitment and injury issues.

The Capitals had Rosie Fadljevic and Tanya Smith on short-term contracts, but both have now left the club.

Stallworth played college basketball with the University of Kentucky and the University of California before being picked by the Connecticut Sun with the 25th selection in the 2014 WNBA draft.

She played in Spain last year and is impressed with the standard of the WNBL.

"The league is very, very different and it's a good experience," Stallworth said.

"Compared to Europe, the post players are a lot bigger and longer, so that can be challenging at times.

"I'm just excited to blend in with the rest of the team."

Meanwhile, Capitals guard Jess Bibby is likely to miss Saturday's game with a back injury.
