During the frantic BBL season, the Adelaide Strikers batsman is like any other player - but for the other 10 months of the year, while his teammates are playing cricket, he is working a normal job in Canberra.

That's exactly what he is preparing to do after a stunning Jake Weatherald century (115 from 70 balls) gifted Adelaide its first BBL title against the Hobart Hurricanes at a heaving Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The celebrations continued long into Monday, but come Tuesday morning Dean will be on a flight back to Canberra - "then it's all over and back to reality".

He hasn't seen his two boys in five weeks and reality struck when it came to deciding whether or not Dean's wife Kim could be at Adelaide Oval for what turned out to be an "unbelievable day".

"It's not everyday you get to play in a BBL grand final, let alone win one. I'm still on that high, I'll come down in the next few days," Dean said.

"I'm looking forward to getting home and seeing the wife and my two kids and just being at home.

"It was Nixon's first day of school yesterday, so Kim came up for the semi-final and had a really good night.

"We chatted at length, she was going to stay, she wanted to stay, but then we decided one of us had to be back for Nixon's first day of school, so she flew back.

"I would have loved to have had the family here but you only get one first day of school, it's all done and dusted now."

Dean didn't need to bat in the final such was Adelaide's dominance, but he did smash 19 from eight balls in the semi-final to help the Strikers secure a home final.

"Of course I wanted to get out there and smack them [in the final], I was hoping I would," Dean said.

"But if I don't get a bat then obviously the team is in a pretty good position, I had a little bit of a sore neck from just watching Jake smack them everywhere.

"It was pretty special just sitting back and watching in the dug out, the feeling amongst the group was really good going into the game and to put on a performance like that was very special.

"The crowd was going nuts. They always turn out at Adelaide Oval, a sea of blue, really loud. It was a win for ourselves but a win for our fans as well, we try every year to put those wins together for the fans and I'm so happy for the town of Adelaide."

Niggling shoulder issues and an incredibly deep batting line-up restricted Dean to six games this season - but he was there in the most important two.

The 33-year-old hopes that will be enough to secure a contract extension after his two-year deal expired following Sunday's triumph.

Dean has become part of the furniture at Adelaide Oval during the BBL season, having spent five years in Strikers colours for 22 games, scoring 317 runs at 19.81 at a blistering strike rate of 133.75.

"I was pretty stoked to just play in a semi - I've been involved in two semi's as 12th man and lost both of them. I got two feet on the field this time and we got the win. It's just fantastic to be involved," Dean said.

"I'll have to sit down and assess [my future] when I get home and see what happens, fingers crossed."
