Knight's team is desperate to reclaim the Ashes they lost on home soil two years ago, and are due in Australia in October for the series which includes three ODIs, three Twenty20s, and a four-day Test.

The men's Ashes is scheduled to begin on November 23, and that series also remains in jeopardy with CA and the ACA still at loggerheads over a new pay deal after the previous memorandum of understanding, which included a revenue share model, expired on June 30.

CA head James Sutherland met with ACA chief Alistair Nicholson on Sunday, a day after the latter sent an email to Australia's top cricketers outlining the serious threat hanging over the Ashes series.

Nine months into the dispute a resolution is yet to be reached, and upcoming series in Bangladesh and India are also under threat following the cancellation of Australia A's tour of South Africa this month.

"Hopefully they get the pay dispute sorted and we can play," Knight said, having kept an eye on the situation from afar.

"I'm getting excited already thinking about the Ashes down under. You saw in that [World Cup] clash down at Bristol the sort of contest that those two teams can have."

Knight's team will take a huge mental advantage into the Ashes, should they go ahead, following their World Cup triumph which included a three-run win over Australia – their first triumph in the tournament over the old enemy since 1993.

India was cruising to victory on Sunday at a sold-out Lord's at 3-191 chasing 229 for the win, before a spectacular batting collapsed triggered by England spearhead and Perth Scorcher Anya Shrubsole.

The 25-year-old finished with 6-46 off 9.4 overs and a crucial late run-out to secure England's first 50-over World Cup title since 2009.

It was the first significant triumph under new coach Mark Robinson, whose first major decision in charge was to controversially remove the captaincy from former skipper Charlotte Edwards just over a year ago in favour of Knight.

That followed England's semi-final loss to Australia from a very strong position at last year's World Twenty20 in India.

Knight said Sunday's World Cup win was a testament to how far her side had come over the past 12 months.

"As a team we've always said we're not the finished article. We feel like we've got a lot of growth with this group of girls," Knight said.

"Whether this World Cup was too soon, it turns out it isn't. We still feel like we've got a long way to go as a team, and this isn't the end of a journey or anything like that.

"We've got a massive winter ahead, we've got the Ashes and it's going to be a great contest."
