Still riding high after winning two world championships in two disciplines last year, Buchanan was back on her BMX bike at the Gold Coast and leads the national series.
Buchanan launched an audacious bid last year to win three world championships in three countries on three bikes across just 56 days.
The 23-year-old's schedule is hectic again this year with races in six countries. But she is focused on winning the national title in Shepparton in April.
''I'm always upping it every year, I'm never content and I've set a lot of challenges and projects this year,'' Buchanan said.
''I want to regain my BMX world title and then win back the national title that I crashed out in last year.
''I'm pretty hungry to win that national title, that's what I've got my eyes on. It's still a jam-packed schedule but I'm only doing one mountain bike event this year.''
Buchanan made her Olympic Games debut in London two years ago but was heartbroken when she lost the gold-medal race.
She has bounced back to win two world titles, Cycling Australia's highest prize and the Australian Institute of Sport athlete of the year award in the past year.
The selection process for the Rio Olympics starts this year and Buchanan is perfectly positioned to stake her claim as one of the world's best BMX riders.
She will compete in Australia, England, Germany, the United States, Canada and Argentina this year as well as starting a ''Buchanan Next Gen'' program for up-and-coming riders.
She will mentor two of the best juniors in Australia as part of the program.
''It's pretty hectic and there are things going on outside sport as well,'' Buchanan said.
''There's the push for women in sport and the Buchanan Next Gen team, it's a whole range of things that will keep me on my toes.''
Buchanan will next compete in Perth in March at the second round of the national series.
