The Capital Football board has unanimously endorsed the recommendation from chief executive Heather Reid from a shortlist of four candidates. The other three were from Australia.

Canberra United is waiting for FFA's technical department to give the green light, if the coaching qualification standards and regulations are satisfied.

Reid recently returned from a trip to Europe where she interviewed the prospective candidate.

If approved, the new coach will follow in the footsteps of championship-winner Jitka Klimkova. The former Czech Republic international guided United to the title in her first year in charge in 2011-12 before missing the finals last season.

United wanted Klimkova to remain at the club, but didn't stand in her way when she accepted the coaching job with the New Zealand under-17 women's team in preparation for next year's World Cup.

Klimkova will also be involved with New Zealand's under-20s women's team.

The new coach will also be the second female coach United has appointed. For the first three campaigns, Robbie Hooker (season one) and Ray Junna (season two and three) shared duties.

The appointment of the new coach will allow United more certainty in recruiting players, along with retaining the bulk of last season's squad.
