It was only eight years earlier the Canberra Olympic midfielder couldn't speak a word of English when his family emigrated to Australia from Macedonia.

But having been a part of the same ACT Academy of Sport class as Socceroos star Tom Rogic, Tanoski wants to use his own experience from a whirlwind five months aboard as the springboard for a successful overseas career.

''It was amazing, when you train at football full-time you know what you really want and if you want to pursue it,'' Tanoski said.

''Training six hours a day when you don't have any rest and games at night is really intense. Living alone was what made me realise how much I really want it.''

The 18-year-old's stint back in the national capital will be a brief one before he heads to England at the end of June for a series of club trials.

Just five months into the year and already Tanoski's passport is filling up with more stamps than a post office.

It started in January with a three-week tour with Australian Schoolboys team to Brazil and Argentina, where he played against Barcelona maestro Messi's former club Newell's Old Boys.

That was followed by a spell in England with the Stockport Academy as part of receiving the ''Angelo Liangis'' scholarship, which is awarded to Olympic's most promising young player.

He also trained with a club in the Italian second division, capping off an eye-opening worldwide trip.

Tanoski is using Rogic's rise from playing for Belconnen United to a couple years later lining up for Scottish giants Celtic as proof of where the journey can lead.

''You saw how much he had to work for it,'' Tanoski said. ''As soon as he went over, he got the drive and now he's at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.''

Tanoski was a surprise addition to the Olympic line-up two weeks ago in its 1-0 win against Canberra FC, with the two teams squaring off in a top-of-the-table rematch at Deakin Stadium on Sunday.

It will be Olympic's second game in three days after it let slip a two-goal lead in the final 10 minutes before getting past Capital League outfit White Eagles 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out to advance to the quarter-finals of the Federation Cup last Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Canberra FC is in talks to host the Malaysian national team in June after negotiations with Belconnen United fell through.

However, Belconnen United is exploring the possibility of having the Malaysian under-23 team during its tour of Australia in August and September.
