Canberra's Brendan Jones qualified to play in his second US Open on Monday, shooting a 66 and 68 in back-to-back rounds to lead the sectional qualifier in Japan and earn his place in next month's major.

The 10-under par through 36 holes at the Lake Hamamatsu Country Club in Shizuoka continued a good run of form which has Jones leading the money list of the Japan Tour, despite some illness, injury and tough weather conditions since winning the Token Homemate Cup in mid-April.
''There's a funny thing in golf. When you see someone that's down, you've got to be wary of them, because they can come out and surprise you,'' Jones said.
''That's pretty much what I've been doing to myself - surprising myself. This year has been amazing. It just seems like I'm just having a good run right now, so I'm going to try and milk it for all I've got.''
The last major Jones played was last year's PGA Championship, where he missed the cut. He had good reason, though, having spent two months at home with a new baby. ''I took no form at all in there and played accordingly,'' he said.
The 37-year-old doesn't have any specific goals in mind yet for his second tilt at the US Open after previously failing to make the cut in 2004 at Shinnecock Hills.
''It's all just sinking in that I'm actually going to be playing it,'' he said. ''My form's been good, I'm competing over here pretty much every week, so I'm going to take some good feelings over to America.''
The 2012 US Open will be held at the Olympic Golf Club in San Francisco from June 14.
