And the kicker is, Olive says "we still haven't seen the best" of Single Gaze yet.

Jockey Kathy O'Hara rode Single Gaze to a comfortable win in the Doomben Mandate Tails Stakes to make for a "bloody great" Saturday afternoon.

"We were just here working out that it was nearly on a year ago that she fell in the Oaks, and it's been a long journey back for her," Olive said.

"A lot of hard knocks and disappointment in the last year but it all came to fruition today with her getting back to her best and winning a Stakes race again."

Little over a year ago O'Hara crashed to the turf aboard Single Gaze as she entered the Randwick straight in the Australian Oaks.

She was left with a punctured lung, a broken collar bone and broken ribs but the comeback story for both jockey and horse added another stirring chapter at Doomben.

Olive praised O'Hara for a ride so "fantastic" that 400 metres into the 1600m race he was "super confident" Single Gaze was going to return to the winners' circle.

Single Gaze didn't win by a huge margin but comfortably enough, and Olive says she is well placed to improve off it.

"We know how good this mare goes, we still haven't seen the best of her yet," Olive said.

"It's just a relief more than anything I think, for all the team in my stable. There's been a lot of hard work go in and just a relief to get her back to winning again.

"She's a group one winner, I'd like to think she can win another one somewhere along the line. She was four weeks between runs leading into this, and I think she'll improve immensely off it.

"She's a really good horse and I feel that we still haven't seen the best of her."

Next on the agenda for Single Gaze is the group two weight for age A.D. Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast in a fortnight, before the group one Doomben Cup two weeks after that.
