Diamonds shooter Caitlin Bassett, who nailed 49 goals from 51 shots in Saturday's grand final win over the Giants, said Browne and Scherian were ready to make their international debuts and that goal attack Wood should be given the chance to add to her two Test caps.

Australia's next international assignment is the Quad Series at the end of August, for which selectors will announce their squad next week.

Wood was one of the Lightning's best in the grand final, finishing with 16 goals, most of them from long range. Browne and Scherian have been consistent in the Sunshine Coast midcourt throughout, with the latter so highly regarded at centre by coach Noeline Taurua that star New Zealand centre Laura Langman played wing defence for most of the year.

"Steph Wood was absolutely amazing, she took all the pressure off me tonight, she sunk some timely long bombs, no doubt she'll match up for Diamonds when that's announced and I'd love to keep building that combination with her," Bassett said.

"Shezzy [Scherian] and Kelsey Browne I think have been absolutely unbelievable and they've definitely been noticed for what they've done this year. For Laura Scherian, she's been overlooked by Queensland Firebirds the last couple of years and Kelsey Browne was sitting on the bench at Vixens. For those to players to come into our environment and really make those starting positions their own is just testament to how amazing these players are."

Taurua echoed Bassett's sentiments, saying: "They [the selectors] have got some hard decisions and big decisions to be able to make. The message has always been the same, if they can perform in a grand final, then the door's open. I think they've put their foot through it and now it's up to the selectors to actually choose them."

Bassett will be one of the Diamonds' automatic selections for the Quad Series, and next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Lightning captain Geva Mentor will likely lead England in the two tournaments, while Karla Mostert, Saturday's most valuable player, will represent South Africa.

Langman remains arguably New Zealand's best midcourter, but is ineligible to represent the Silver Ferns in 2017 after opting to play in the Super Netball competition this season, rather than her home country's revamped competition.

Whether she lines up at the Commonwealth Games remains to be seen.

Should the Lightning's batch of superstars stay together, they'll be well placed to defend their Super Netball title which held extra significance for Bassett.

She joined from West Coast in the off-season, and for all the international success she's achieved, there was still a gaping hole in her trophy cabinet that has finally been filled by some major domestic silverware.

"It was something that's been elusive to me for so many years, that was the reason why I moved to Sunshine Coast, I'm getting a little bit older and probably don't have too much netball left in me," Bassett said.

"I knew from the first game at the start of the season that I'd made the right choice. Making it all the way through to the grand final I've been pinching myself and not just to win but to win by so many goals was icing on the cake.

"I had to leave all my friends and family. I'm a Perth girl born and bred so all my supporter base was in Perth.

"I know there were a few people that were upset and questioned my loyalty but for me I had to be loyal to myself. When I rocked up to the very first training session at the Lightning, I felt those butterflies in my tummy. I've been playing elite netball for 12 years now and to have those nerves is a really good sign, it means I was still excited about the game that I love to play."
