A hefty chunk of England's best players now call Super Netball home and if what they've shown at club level this season is anything to go by, the Diamonds and New Zealand's Silver Ferns will have their work cut out next year on the Gold Coast.

Seven capped England players ply their trade in Australia across five teams, including classy Giants duo Serena Guthrie and Jo Harten.

The pair have been instrumental in establishing the expansion club as one of the top three in the league this year, Guthrie as a workhorse centre and Harten an unwavering tower as goal shooter.

"If you look at it, it's the best league in the world, you've got the strongest players in this competition," Guthrie said. "Naturally, you have to lift your game if you're going to run with everyone in the competition.

"Your game does lift and you do land things and build on your strengths and also try and build on those weaknesses as well, and the improvements that you can make in your game."

The Giants pair have been joined in Sydney by Swifts shooter Helen Housby, who hadn't played league netball in Australia before moving from Manchester last year.

Geva Mentor, who has 119 caps for England, captains the Sunshine Coast, while Jade Clarke and Ama Agbeze represent Adelaide with 202 games of international experience between them.

Stacey Francis of West Coast Fever, who the Giants play on Sunday, rounds out the England contingent.

"It does help the imports, but also having a really good mix of imports and Australian national players does help grow the game in general," Guthrie said.

"We've seen that this year in the competition with all the youngsters coming through, that's also been equally as exciting as some of the imports that have come in and made an impact.

"It's a really cool time to be involved in the sport and to see what's going to happen over the next few weeks really and the second half of the season."

Guthrie has had to take more control of the mid-court since captain Kimberlee Green went down with a season-ending knee injury earlier this year, while Harten has assumed on-court leadership responsibilities.

"It's been great to watch her and watch her grow and develop even more – each year she just keeps getting better and better," Guthrie said of her England teammate.

"Since the loss of Kim in terms of an on-court leader, she has really stepped up. The whole team has made an effort to try and come together and step up in the absence of Kim on court, but Jo has definitely been a standout.

"The performances that she's been putting in week-in, week-out and that consistency. That's what you want from a goal shooter. She's an 85-plus per cent shooter and sometimes you almost forget. I think that's just an expectation now. Having to do that week-in, week-out I think is a pretty incredible feat in this competition."

The Giants can force their way back into the Super Netball top two with a win over the Fever in Perth, following last week's narrow home defeat to the Magpies.

"It's going to be tough going away to Perth – it always is, the crowd's always nice and vocal," Guthrie said.

"We know that's something to expect. Fever's attack is obviously super quick and they've got really good ball speed and that's something we're going to have to try and slow down.

"It's a flying visit, but we're hoping to get in, put in a good performance, get back and have a couple of days' rest."
