Scott Morrison has called signs outside departmental toilets 'ridiculous'

Signs have been placed outside toilets at the department's Barton head office saying "PM&C is committed to staff inclusion and diversity. Please use the bathroom that best fits your gender identity". Nine journalist Chris Uhlmann tweeted a photo of a sign on Thursday afternoon and the Prime Minister was asked about it by Ben Fordham on 2GB.

"It's ridiculous," Mr Morrison said. "It'll be sorted out. I've had a chat to the incoming secretary of Prime Minister and Cabinet."

Mr Morrison was asked if he had any concerns about the signs but only said they were unnecessary.

"I think people can work out which room to use."

"I just don't think it's necessary, it's over the top, political correctness, over the top."

The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet promotes its inclusion and diversity policies to prospective employees and is a member of the Diversity Council of Australia, the Australian Network on Disability and Pride in Diversity. An LGBTIQ+ Network is one of a handful of networks within the department as part of measures to be more inclusive and diverse.

According to the department's website, around 6 per cent of staff shared that they identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and/or intersex.
