The works are right near the NGA Sculpture Garden and will include new paving, walls, lighting, seating, stairs and planting. The project is expected to be completed in October, with path users to be diverted around the site.
The authority says the work was in response to public safety concerns about low lighting and a pinch point in the path which created a blind spot.
