The road remained closed as of 6:30pm on Wednesday evening.
The west bound lanes of Barry Drive and the south bound lanes of Marcus Clarke street were closed due to water on the road on Wednesday afternoon, the ACT Emergency Services Agency said.
ACT Policing, Fire and Rescue and Icon Water responded to the incident.
Icon Water remains on scene.
In a statement, Icon Water said repairs to the burst water main could take about six hours but additional work would be done to repair road damage.
"Due to the extent of road damage caused by the burst those repairs will take additional time," the statement said.
It is not yet known what caused the water pipe to break.
"Water mains can break due to a number of factors including age, soil condition and interference," Icon Water said.
ESA has advised the community to avoid the area.
