Residents might consider taking action against this annoying influx of Spring Street types, but they have bigger things to worry about.

After all, what's a couple more blow-ins, more or less, in a place like Cranbourne East, on headcount the fastest growing suburb in Australia in the 12 months ending June 2017. It added more than 7000 souls for a population rise of 27 per cent.

This part of town is ground zero, not just for Melbourne’s historic population explosion, but for just about every issue looming large in this years’ Victorian state election, and it's home to some of the marginal seats where the thing will be won and lost.

With 7340 more people to house, to transport, to be kept safe from crime, with children to be educated, and that’s just in one suburb alone, no wonder the politicians are joining in the exodus to the burbs.

Both the Labor government and the Liberal opposition reckon they can play to their strengths out here; just this week Premier Daniel Andrews was in nearby Clyde North to pledge no fewer than 12 new schools in the outer suburbs, three of them within dropping-off distance of Cranbourne East.

Liberal leader Matthew Guy, who has also been spotted in these parts lately, will be aiming his tough-on-law-and-order policies at places like Cranbourne East, and he’ll have good reason to believe the locals will listen.

Postcode 3977, which includes Cranbourne, Skye and Devon Meadows, had the most home invasions in Melbourne in 2016, and was one of only three postcodes in the state to record more than 100 aggravated burglaries that year.

Labor’s ''getting it done'' schtick will also get a fair workout in Cranbourne East and surrounding areas. With no rail links to the suburb, people around here rely heavily on the congested Monash Freeway to get to and from town.

Andrews announced last month that a much-needed $711 million upgrade to the road was to be fast-tracked.

Coincidence? Probably not, but a couple of big-spending public transport announcements between now and November might be chucked in too, as Labor seeks to hold onto its marginal seats in the area.

Expect the hip-pocket appeal from both major political outfits to play out strongly in the booming outer suburbs too.

These are where the young families, who are most vulnerable to rising bills and stagnant wages, live and it will be intriguing to see how the state’s parties, with the limited policy levers at their control, go about promising to help.

But there's no uncertainty about where the campaign trail leads this November.
