A man has died after his car hit a tree near Goulburn on Sunday.

NSW police said the man's white Ford sedan left Hume Highway, near Tiyces Lane, and crashed into a tree about 6pm.

The man was travelling north along the highway, about 12 kilometres from Goulburn, when the crash occurred.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
