The latest to sign up is Nigel Johnson who this week announced his resignation as host of Drive on Mix 106.3, his final day on-air being July 29.

Johnson replaces Greg Allan at ESA who is moving on to the NSW Rural Fire Service.

Allan is also a former Drive presenter on Mix 106.3. Johnson replaced him on Mix 106.3 and, now, is doing the same at the ESA.

Jeff Garner was also the Drive announcer on Mix 106.3 before he joined the ESA media team in 2008. He now works in media for Territory and Municipal Services.

It's understood Johnson is on a three-month contract.

His resignation came nine months after his successful on-air partnership with Scott Masters, as Scotty and Nige, came to a screeching halt.

It was October last year that Scott Masters left - he says was axed - from the breakfast slot on 104.7, the sister station of Mix 106.3.

Johnston then announced his resignation from 104.7 two months later, saying the departure of Masters was a "game-changer". He moved across to Mix in February.

Mix 106.3 announced the resignation and said Johnson would not be giving any interviews.

He spent almost 19 years working in various roles with 104.7 and 106.3 but "decided it's time for a career change".

The luring over of radio talent to ESA media is probably no surprise given the head honcho of media for at the agency is Darren Cutrupi, a former news director and announcer across Canberra's commercial radio sphere.

Rob Duckworth will present Drive on Mix106.3 from August 1 until September 17, which marks the end of ratings for the year.

Mix 106.3 and Hit104.7 content director Jason Matthews thanked Johnson for his years of service.

"He is one of Canberra's most loved radio personalities and I am sure all his loyal listeners will join us in wishing him all the very best on his new career," he said.
