We have some late contenders for the highly sought-after honour after already bringing you some other finalists , awarding some clear frontrunners early on and revealing one showstopper from Independent candidate for Ginninderra, Dr Kim Huynh.

Flame-haired Labor candidate for Ginninderra, Tara Cheyne, has used her locks to her advantage in her poster – and her name, evoking a little battlefield imagery along the way. Her "Tara! Tara! Tara!" seems like a nod to the 1970 movie, Tora! Tora! Tora! about the bombing of Pearl Harbour. Maybe? Yes? So she's the Japanese not the Americans?

Nup, none of that.

"No, absolutely not!," Tara told us. "Although a few people have said that to me."

No, she decided to emphasise Tara on her posters because it was "short, simple and difficult to mispronounce". Unlike, her last name which is pronounced "Chain". She thought people might not make the connection between how she introduced herself and what they read on the posters.

And the hair? It's not an election gimmick, been that way for five years. "I went grey early so I thought I only had a few years to get away with it being this colour," she said.

The strategy seems to have worked.

"People know who I am when I knock on their door," she said.

Independent candidate for Kurrajong Peter Robinson sneaks into the competition with his design, which is actually for a t-shirt, not a poster. We still thought it was worth a guernsey.

The clever, simple design features punctuation marks as a face and does draw attention.

"I've been using that image lone before there were emoticons," he said.

Peter says he is "traditionally a Labor voter" but was compelled to stand because he is so against light rail, which he believes cannot be justified and will destroy the beauty of Canberra.

We're a sucker for a cute dog and as we saw in the federal election, ACT candidates are not afraid to employ a little pooch power.

That includes Labor candidate for Kurrajong, public servant Richard Niven, who has his family's dog Ollie in the poster with him. Ollie also accompanies him on the campaign trail.

"To be honest, I used him in the poster because otherwise, I'm a middle-aged man in a suit, which is not me at all," Richard said. Good to have some honesty in politics.

It has to be said, the Libs have been less than exciting with their posters, opting for the traditional head and shoulders shot. So we will give a shout-out to Murrumbidgee candidate Peter Hosking who did employ some attention-seeking tactics towards his poster on Adelaide Avenue this week.

Peter tells us it was his little brother Simon in the blue suit. The things family will do for you, hey?

"It was just a bit of fun at the end of the election campaign," Peter said.

"I don't think [posters] necessarily win you a whole lot of votes but if it helps someone remember my name in the last week of the campaign, than that's good."
