A baby boy has died in front of his aunt and siblings after he was run over by a maxi taxi on the Gold Coast on Friday morning.

The one-year-old died at the scene with critical head injuries, police said.
The tragic accident unfolded on Excalibur Court in Paradise Point's Sovereign Islands enclave about 10.30am.
Police said the baby's aunt, a 38-year-old Paradise Point woman, was paying for the fare and her four young relatives had just exited a taxi after a trip to the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre when the accident happened.
"As the taxi has been driving away, a one-year-old boy whose somehow fallen under the wheel and is now deceased as a result of injuries sustained by being driven over," Inspector Jim Plowman said.
"Due to the injuries, there was pretty much zero chance of any medical intervention being successful.
"We do not believe there’s any criminality or suspicious circumstances.
"It’s one of those unfortunate things where you’ve got a number of kids running around...it’s just one of those unfortunate accidents which realistically shouldn’t happen and unfortunately from time-to-time they do."
The woman and the 32-year-old taxi driver were taken to a Gold Coast hospital suffering shock.
Inspector Plowman said everyone involved, including the baby boy's sisters and brother were very distraught.
"The taxi driver is beside himself and purely emotional," he said.
Inspector Plowman said the baby boy's mother and father who were out of the country at the time had been notified of the incident.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
