Fire crews pulled out of Campwin Beach, 40 kilometres south of Mackay, victorious on Friday morning, in stark contrast to a warning issued on Thursday that gave locals just 30 minutes to evacuate as the "severe, fast-moving" flames closed in.

Firefighters also celebrated victory over another bushfire at Mount Christian, 80 kilometres south of Mackay, on Friday morning which had residents on-edge on Thursday when a prepare to leave notice was issued by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

A QFES spokeswoman said there had been no fresh warnings or fires overnight and firefighters' focus remained on getting the upper hand over the bushfires near Gracemere, Deepwater and Tinnanbar.

Fire crews managed to save the community of Tinnanbar on Thursday and hoped to strengthen their position on Friday.

"Conditions will moderate today, but this is no time for complacency," the spokeswoman said.

A 'leave now' warning remained in place for Deepwater, Baffle Creek Rules Beach and Oyster Creek residents.

Locals in Broken River, Captain Creek, Dalrymple Heights, Carmila, Kowari Gorge and Winfield should prepare to evacuate, according to the fire service.

Those affected by the bushfires at North Stradbroke Island, Tinnanbar, Gracemere, The Caves, Mount Larcom, Mutchilba and Kabra should watch for updates from emergency services.

A local fire ban will remain in place until Sunday for residents in the Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Gympie, Sunshine Coast, Noosa Shire, North Burnett, South Burnett and Cherbourg local government areas.

QFES commissioner Katarina Carroll said on Thursday 15 sheds, two cabins, two houses, a bus and an excavator were destroyed by fires, with 15 firefighters suffering from severe heat stress.

Ten schools remain closed: Ambrose State School, Carmila State School, Eungella State School, Finch Hatton State School, Mount Larcom State School, Ridgelands State School, Rosedale State School, Stanwell State School, Wartburg State School and Yarwun State School.

Three early learning centres were also closed: Beechmont State School P&C; Association Outside School Hours Care, Platypus Kindy and Tieri Daycare Centre.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she had seen the fatigue in firefighters' eyes when she visited the town of Kabra, near Rockhampton, on Thursday.

"Of course, there is a lot of fatigue out there," she told ABC News on Friday.

"I met some of the firefighters on the front line who were coming in to do a changeover at the Kabra area just yesterday.

"You can see it in their eyes, they have been out there for 14-hour shifts, I mean that is a long time to be in this heat, and it’s very hard to describe that heat.

"I was up there yesterday and if you can imagine cyclonic winds, but there’s no humidity, there just this really dry, oppressive heat."

Ms Palaszczuk said there was still several tough days ahead and urged residents to listen to the radio, watch the TV and keep an eye on their mobile phones for warning messages.

"We’re not out of this. This heatwave is going to go on for another four days at least," she said.

"On Sunday, we will see record temperatures out at Longreach, in excess of 45 degrees, then it’ll move down to the south-east on Monday and Tuesday."

Gallant efforts by firefighters on Wednesday night saved the town of Gracemere and meant more than 8000 residents evacuated at short notice were able to return home.

“I was at Kabra yesterday and we saw just how close that firefront got to the town of Gracemere," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"There are cattle sheds there that would have taken out that whole property if the fire had got through there, as well as the town and the Aurizon maintenance centre for the tilt train, so we are very very lucky and thankfully the families are okay."

Ms Carroll said authorities used state-of-the-art prediction software to save the town and lives, amid "unimaginable conditions".

"We used simulation technology across the state to make early and key decisions yesterday ... our structures have stood up extremely well in the last three days," she said.

Ms Carroll said fire seasons were getting longer and began six weeks earlier than expected this year, while warning the risk was not yet over.

"We have emerging issues here as we speak today, but also across the state," she said, from Kabra, near Rockhampton, where fire ripped cane fields and at least one home.

Thousands of people across Queensland were forced to abandon their homes as bushfires rage across the state.

About 130 fires were burning on Thursday afternoon, with people urged to evacuate in several communities near Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Mackay.

Residents in some communities west of Gladstone, such as Ambrose and Mount Larcom, were able to return home, but Mount Larcom State School and two other buildings in the area were damaged.

The thankful return came as firefighters battled against dry, hot winds which wreaked havoc with their efforts and an unprecedented catastrophic fire danger warning for Capricornia, the Central Highlands and Coalfields regions.
