A 45-year-old man, who police believe is the president of the Gold Coast Chapter of the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, was refused bail and was held at the Southport Watchhouse, set to appear before court on Wednesday.

The Burleigh Heads man is accused of beating a 42-year-old man unconscious at a Palm Beach Hotel on Saturday night.

Police were called to the scene after a fight between a hotel patron and three men around noon.

Police alleged the victim was knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched until he lost consciousness. It is believed the victim knew the accused.

“This was a cowardly assault which occurred in a public place on a victim who lay defenceless on the ground," Detective Inspector Glen Donaldson said.

"This level of violence has no place in our community and strengthens the unwavering commitment of Taskforce Maxima to continue our pursuit of members of outlaw motorcycle gangs involved in criminal activities.

“The QPS will continue to use every legal mechanism available to dismantle and disrupt organised crime gangs operating in this state."

Investigations are ongoing.
