More than $9 million will be spent to transform or plan upgrades for 10 suburban shopping precincts across Brisbane.

Brisbane City Council committed the funding as part of its 2018-19 budget but has now revealed where exactly the money will be spent.
This financial year, more than $2 million will be spent at Samford Road, Gaythorne, $400,000 at Hamilton Road, Wavell Heights, $450,00 Curragundi Road at Jindalee and $500,000 for Biota Street, Inala.
The council also committed more than $4.8 million over two financial years at the 2018-19 budget for the Aspley Village project and a further $29.6 million over four financial years for yet-to-be-decided projects.
The council’s city planning chairman, LNP councillor Matthew Bourke, said residents did not want to go to tired and old shopping strips.
“We know how important these local shopping strips are to our local communities, they are the generator of jobs,” he said.
“When you have a public realm that needs to be improved that’s our part to play as a council to help stimulate these communities and help stimulate these shopping areas.
“By rejuvenating the shopping areas we rejuvenate the community. We make places where people can come together where they can enjoy the leisure and lifestyle opportunities.”
Cr Bourke said the money would also be spent this financial year planning upgrades for five further precincts.
The council has also allocated $210,000 for planning upgrades to Station Road at Sunnybank, Railway Parade at Darra, The Corso at Seven Hills, Kenrose Street at Carina and Beaudesert Road at Moorooka.
Cr Bourke said those sites subject to planning would be delivered in future years.
“These improvements will include footpath upgrades, landscaping, new seating areas, decorative lighting and public artwork, and will help make these shopping precincts even more attractive and inviting for local residents," he said.
Labor councillor Kara Cook (Morningside) said residents and businesses had been calling for an upgrade to the Corso at Seven Hills for 10 years.
"The Corso has had three petitions with hundreds of petitions and projects in LNP wards have been funded after three months with less local support," she said.
"I will continue to fight for the project to be fully funded and completed as a priority.
"The residents and businesses have waited long enough.
"The planning and design money does not guarantee full funding."
