A Queensland teacher alleged to have gone on holiday with a student he was accused of being sexually involved with has had his suspension from teaching continued by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The man has been teaching in Queensland for eight years.
Teacher registration body the Queensland College of Teachers told the tribunal the man had previous relationships with two other former students, and it believed he posed “an unacceptable risk of harm” to children.
The QCT alleged the man allowed the student to stay overnight at his house, he had sent texts of a sexual nature to the student, they had taken a holiday together and he had offered “preferential treatment” to the student by giving extra assistance with school work.
The tribunal noted that the man made no submissions in his defence and in doing so, made no admissions.
Tribunal Member Ned Aughterson ordered the man’s suspension from teaching continue.
